Steven Verber serves as the Deputy Executive Director – Office of the Deputy Chief Information Officer – Operations within the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this role, Mr. Verber oversees the comprehensive IT infrastructure and operational support for approximately 11,000 users dispersed nationwide across more than 22 customer organizations.
Mr. Verber is a strategic leader responsible for the health, security and sustainability of the HHS Operations service portfolio for the Office of the Secretary (OS). He provides leadership for the on-going life-cycle operational support of shared enterprise solutions that assist agencies within HHS, as well as state and local first responders for both disaster response and national events. Prior to this role, Mr. Verber served as the Director for Operations where he was responsible for hardware and software asset management, the HHS service desk, data center operations for 12 facilities, and the change management process for both hardware and software. Mr. Verber also served as the Director for Engineering, where he provided strategic and technical leadership for IT process improvements, systems engineering, development, integration, and deployment. Mr. Verber served as the HHS Acting Chief Enterprise Architect where he developed standard use cases for cloud computing that could apply to multiple HHS agencies.
Prior to joining HHS, Mr. Verber served on active duty and then as a civilian employee of the U.S. Coast Guard leading service-wide IT engineering projects for over 30 years. Mr. Verber has a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and is a Senior Fellow with the Partnership for Public Service.
